Olive Route:

The region is famous for it's olives from which it produces it's own AOC (appellation origin controllee) superb oil .Centred in Nyons but including the Buis region. The oil is made from the tranche variety of olive.

Lavender Route:

Buis is central to this aromatic route. There are several distillation factories in the region which smell unbelievable.
In June and July the fields are in the full glorious lavender bloom with squares of colour rolling across the valleys and climbing onto the sides of the mountains. Whether passing through on foot, bike or car, however you explore, the smell is wonderful.

General Walking Guidance

There are several walks marked by the local tourist office from the town centre ranging from one to about five and a half hours. The tourist office produces a small leaflet pack with each walk on seperate cards to make it easy for beginners.

The longer walks need a lot of fluids in mid-summer and maps are advisable.

Buis sits on the junction of the 2 IGN (Institute Geographique National) maps 3140ET and 3139OT so unfortunately you need to look at both. All the local maps are at the house and are easy to read.

The local paths use and intercept with the main french GR (Grande Randonnee) paths which are usually cleary marked with red/white stripes. I have still managed to get lost, although I always knew where I was but not the wherabouts of the actual path, just a few times!

A short car drive opens up an infinite number of walks into the Massif du Mont Ventoux. There is a walking path from Buis to the summit of Mt Ventoux via Brantes (GR9 and GR4)

There are also routes for bikes on and off road. From the house there is an excelent up hill ride to the Col d'Ey.

There is a bicycle hire shop 2 minutes walk from the house and plenty of space to store bikes securely should you bring your own.
