Buis Les Baronnies, Provence, South of France
![]() ![]() Buis has it's own Provencale market every Wednesday morning filling the streets, squares and car parks. A walk around the market, coffee in the cafe and picnic on the terrace before going for a swim in the local pool (5 minutes walk from the house, surrounded by mountain views!) There are several restaurants in the town all within walking distance from the house and many more if you don't mind driving. There are shops in the town, bars, and an excellent and helpful tourist office. The central town has plane trees planted in 1812 by Napolean to shade his troops. Buis is famous for it's olives and olive oil. Apricots and cherries are grown locally and there are many local artisans. There are several well marked walking routes from the town centre; gentle strolls and others quite demanding. From all parts of the old medeval town the mountains are visible. There is a 15th Century Place des Arcade to shelter from the summer heat and scented garden, old church, 3 supermarkets, banks, post office a small cinema. It's perfect! Alongside the river is a high promenade with seats overlooking the boules courts where the young and old play petanque at all hours. Available from the town centre are the equestrian centre, rock climbing, bike hire and cycle routes. Buis is on the olive, lavender and Cote du Rhone routes. |
